Award-Winning Australian Genetics Coming to the USA in 2026
Gordilly Park is excited to announce that in 2026 we will be exporting a carefully selected collection of some of Australia’s most successful Valais Blacknose genetics to the United States.
These genetics have been selected from animals and bloodlines represented in our outstanding 2025 Australian show season, giving American breeders an opportunity to access genetics from some of the leading animals within the Gordilly Park breeding program.
This represents an exciting new chapter for Gordilly Park and provides US breeders with access to genetics developed in Australia from carefully selected international Valais Blacknose bloodlines.
At Gordilly Park, our passion is breeding exceptional Valais Blacknose Sheep that combine quality genetics, outstanding breed character, structural soundness and the gentle temperament for which this remarkable Swiss breed is renowned.
Our breeding program has been developed through the careful selection of pure Valais Blacknose genetics from respected international bloodlines, with every mating planned to strengthen the qualities we believe are fundamental to the breed.
We place particular emphasis on correct conformation, strong bone, sound feet and legs, straight toplines, balanced traditional markings and exceptional fleece quality. We seek long, flowing, lustrous fleeces with good crimp and coverage, including the heavily fleeced legs that contribute so much to the distinctive appearance of the Valais Blacknose.
Equally important is breed character. We select for attractive heads, the characteristic Valais expression, strong breed presence and the calm, friendly temperament that makes these sheep such a pleasure to breed, show and handle.
Breeding for the Next Generation
At Gordilly Park, selection is about more than producing an impressive individual animal. We consider pedigree, fertility, structural correctness, family consistency and the quality of progeny when determining which animals will contribute to future generations.
Our sheep are raised in a quiet, low-stress environment with a strong focus on nutrition, animal health and regular handling. This allows us to evaluate our breeding animals over time and select genetics based on both their physical attributes and their performance within the flock.
The result is a breeding program designed to produce Valais Blacknose sheep suitable for serious breeding programs, the show ring and breeders seeking to continually improve the quality of their flock.
Preserving Original Valais Genetics
Australia’s animal-health status and import requirements have played an important role in the development of our breeding population.
Valais Blacknose genetics imported into Australia have been subject to stringent animal-health and genotype requirements. The foundation genetics entering our program were selected within the required ARQ/ARQ genotype classification, a genotype also historically represented within the pure Swiss Valais Blacknose population.
Australia is internationally recognised as free from classical scrapie. Consequently, Australian breeding programs have developed under a different regulatory environment from countries where breeding strategies have placed greater emphasis on ARR genetics for scrapie resistance.
For Gordilly Park, this has provided the opportunity to maintain access to original Swiss-derived genetic lines while continuing to select strongly for the characteristics that define the Valais Blacknose: breed type, conformation, fleece, markings, temperament and performance.
The result is a valuable genetic resource for international breeders seeking diversity and access to Swiss-derived bloodlines that have been selectively developed and proven within Australia.
