We recently had the incredible privilege of attending the Valais Grading Course in Gamsen, Switzerland, where we learned directly from three of Switzerland’s leading expert graders and breeders.
Our instructors — Richard Zeiter, Romeo Eggel, and Josef Eyre — are internationally recognised in the Valais sheep world, with many of their sheep having won the most prestigious shows, including Miss Visp and Widdermarkt. Their guidance, knowledge, and insight into the breed were truly invaluable, providing a once-in-a-lifetime learning experience.
Experiencing Swiss Culture
Beyond the grading course itself, the experience offered a unique opportunity to immerse ourselves in Swiss traditions. From the iconic cowbells to Romeo’s musical talent on the accordion, we were treated to warm Swiss hospitality and delicious local cuisine — experiences we will not soon forget.

Attending this course not only deepened our knowledge of Valais sheep grading, but also strengthened the bonds within the global Valais Blacknose community.
